ISITUTUTO AFRICA

When: now - January 2009

Hey to all my friends out there......

I am inviting you to take a journey with me from sitting next to the Thames in a little pub in London drinking a glass of wine and observing the buzz of this modern first world city to riding a ferry across the bay to Amsterdam and skipping along to Berlin and Eastern Europe all the way to hopping over the Swiss channel, the deserts and violence of Northern Africa, the tropics of mid Africa, the coast to the South and ending sitting on the point at Mdumbi having a mug of water, surrounded by no more tall buildings, no more buzz, tranquil beauty, yet so poor and different.

I live in the rural Transkei, an ex-homeland of the old South Africa, here we run a unique community tourism business and a vibrantly growing new Non Profit Organization, called Transcape.

This journey will be to create awareness of the organization and in particular to raise funds for the Transcape Agricultural Project. Transcape is running many community projects, mainly focused on HIV/AIDS, education and job creation. We are trying to bridge the differences between the remote rural area of the Transkei and the modern city life. This is one big journey that we all live in but should also be able to live out. How much better can it be done than not to sit and look through the window of a car like a TV, but actually be part of the show with the wind in your face, the sun burning on your skin, the rain soaking you and the cold freezing you. So I will do the trip on my motorbike. For the trip it’s been made lighter, raised suspension, extra fuel tanks were added and the bike was fitted with touring equipment .

I am planning to leave London in August 2008 and be on the road for at least six months, visiting various other NPO’s and NGO’s on the journey, hoping to learn more about their way of working in relation to ours and get some fresh ideas. I thank you for your support in making this dream come one step closer to reality...Thanks a lot for your support!

How can you help Johann raising funds for the Transcape Agriculture Project?

The Transcape Agriculture Project project will supply a minimum of 8 families (about 30 people) to create their own source of income by starting a vegetable farming business. All profits raise will go towards the Transcape Agricultural Project.
